Joomchi
Joomchi is a Korean technique that uses water and pressure to felt layers of hanji paper together. I love how it transforms delicate sheets into richly textured, sculptural surfaces, and I’m excited to share this centuries-old paper tradition through my work.
This richly layered joomchi captures the golden hush of early evening as a fleet of vibrant sailboats drifts across shifting waters. Using textured and translucent papers, the composition glows with saturated warmth—sunset oranges, deep blues, and twilight purples—inviting the viewer into a serene moment between wind, water, and the end of day.

Sunset captures the feeling of an evening sky — layers of coral, gold, and violet merging into one radiant glow. Created through the ancient Korean papermaking practice of Joomchi, this piece blends tradition and texture into a modern, painterly surface that feels almost illuminated from within.
Perfect for adding warmth and character to any space, Sunset is a small work with big presence. It also makes a thoughtful, one-of-a-kind gift — ideal for the person who already “has everything” but still appreciates something truly unique.
Handmade papers are layered and machine stitched onto a Joomchi base, creating a lively garden of color and texture. Inspired by Stuart Davis’s style, I use stitching to create bold outlines that define the flowers and connect the composition. Magnets attach the collage to a wood panel, allowing the paper’s sculptural edges and tactile surface to remain visible.
